Visual Development

A collection of prop design and visual explorations focused on storytelling through objects, materials, and small world-building details.

Rojak - Market Stalls

For this project, I designed a collection of modular market stalls inspired by traditional Malaysian markets, adapted to fit the anthropomorphic world of Rojak. These stalls appear during the sequence where Ayu searches the bustling marketplace for a missing ingredient.

Rather than creating fixed locations, I focused on developing flexible asset-based stall designs, allowing our environment artist to mix, match, and customise what each stall sells depending on the scene’s needs. This approach helped keep the production pipeline efficient while still making the market feel lively, varied, and full of character.

Rojak - Outside Mirror

For Rojak, I refined the design of the outside mirror prop featured in a key moment before Ayu enters the busy market. As she looks into the mirror, it reflects the conflict she feels surrounding her hybrid appearance and sense of identity.

The original concept began as a sketch by our layout and environment artist, which I then developed further by refining the structure, silhouette, and material choices to better fit the story’s setting and emotional tone. The final design was created to feel grounded within the environment while still supporting the more symbolic and emotional storytelling of the scene.
